Ewing drops heartbreaker in sectional quarterfinals
NEPTUNE » The Ewing boys basketball team’s bid to repeat as Central Jersey Group III champion came to an end Wednesday, dropping a 45-44 heartbreaker at Neptune in the quarterfinals.
Dwaine Jones buried a game-winning 3-pointer with four seconds remaining to help rally fourthseeded Neptune from a three-point deficit with 30 seconds left. Sam Fagan made a jumper and Ewing missed 1-of-2 free throws to set up Jones’ heroics.
Fagan finished with 14 points, Jones had 12 points and Jared Kimbrough had 17 rebounds and five blocks in the paint.
Neptune moves on to play top-seeded Moorestown in the semifinals.
Fifth-seeded Ewing’s season ends with an 18-8 record and the CVC Patriot Division championship. MOORESTOWN 68, WW-PN 56 MOORESTOWN » Jagger Zrada erupted for 30 points as the top-seeded Quakers ousted the eighth-seeded Knights for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Isaiah Cureton had a team-high 15 points for West Windsor North. Marcus Williams netted 14 and Brian Murphy added 10.
