Nicholas Gennaro McElhoes - DiMattia, who fought a determined battle during the final weeks of his life at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, was overtaken by the obdurate pneumonia on March 31, 2018.

Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Nicholas lived most of his life throughout New Jersey. A prolific writer of poetry and prose, he was a deep thinking soul with great musical talent as a guitarist and percussionist. Among his many other passions was his meticulous research of sports statistics for his vast collection of sports cards. Also, he would never back down from a passionate political debate in support of the ideals of tolerance by which he lived. He had great love for the people around him, and was loved back in equal measure.

He was extremely close to his family, and will be missed terribly.

Nicholas was preceded in death by his father, Jerry DiMattia; paternal grandparents, Gladys and Jerry DiMattia; maternal grandfathers, Edward McElhoes, and Poppy Jack Notarian; his paternal aunts, Doris Ricci and Donna Dooley and maternal uncle, Bruce Blakeslee.

Nicholas is survived by his mother, Albina (Albie) McElhoes; brother, Alex McElhoes - DiMattia, grandmother, Evelene Notarian, aunt, Bunny (Georgeanne) Blakeslee, and many cousins, including Joseph Ricci, Patrick Dooley, Michelle, Blake and Luke Salvatore, Olivia and Everly Layman, Donnie, Michael, Katie and Justin Blakelsee.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, April 5, from 6-8PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Avenue, Hamilton, 08619. A family gathering will take place on Friday, April 6, from 10-11AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
