Deacon Clifford Kirkland Jr. of Trenton

Deacon Clifford Kirkland Jr. of Trenton, NJ age 89 departed this life to be with the Lord on April 1, 2018.

He was born on September 25, 1928 in Swainsboro, GA.

Deacon Kirkland moved to Trenton, NJ in 1948 and joined the Weslyn Chapel Community Baptist Church, now the Wayne Ave. Baptist Church and became a Junior Deacon. In 1984 he joined El Bethel Baptist Church, Trenton, NJ under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. John Gaines Sr. He later became a founding member of the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Trenton, NJ under the leadership of Bishop Johnnie Vaughn Jr., where he was ordained as Deacon on October 25, 1998.

Deacon Kirkland was predeceased in death by his parents, Clifford Kirkland Sr. and Elizabeth Godbee Kirkland, his son, Clifford Kirkland III, and his sister, Genell Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Annette House Kirkland, one son, Ronald Kirkland (Alfreda), brother and sister-in-law, Lewis and Bernice Williams, brother in law, Robert C. Brooks (Barbara), sister in laws, Jacqueline Lucas (Michael) and Lenni Snead, two granddaughters, Gaberielle Davis, and Cherese Kirkland, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, his church family, and many friends.

Celebration of life will be 11am Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 735 E. State St., Trenton, NJ. Calling hours will be 9am until the time of service at the church. Interment will be at Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, NJ. Arrangements are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
