Sure-fire slam dunk supporting the Sunshine Foundation

Not many instances in life deliver certain outcomes.

Slam dunks rarely serve as fixtures on the hardcourt, hard core surfaces of life as unexpected events can change the course of history and destination.

Still, WBCB Radio (1490 AM) and the Sunshine Foundation of Mercer County have combined to deliver an event that ..... well, it’s a slam dunk as in the inaugural Slam Dunk and 3-point shooting contest that features Colonial Valley Conference student-athletes.

“It’s the first time we’ve joined together and we’re thrilled to be partners with WBCB. We’re grateful to collaborate with a radio station that has such a long-standing relationship with student-athletes and the community. And, of course, having students willing to give back and support our organization is thrilling,” Cathy DiCostanzo, president of the Sunshine Foundation Mercer County Chapter.

Dreamlift on May 1 will escort approximately 90 chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children from the Trenton-Mercer Airport to Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando during a whirlwind same-day, down-and-back excursion.

An all-volunteer group Sunshine Foundation of Mercer County Chapter, plus, numerous other organizations including law enforcement officers and firefighters, deliver an attentive performance as Dreamlifters depart from the New Jersey National Guard hangar off Scotch Rd. in Ewing.

Sam Goldberg, sports director for WBCB, jumped at the chance to support Sunshine Foundation, especially after making his first trip to Disney last year.

“Bill Rednor, our account executive, took me and gave zero information on where we were going. The genuine smiles on the kids’ faces upon arrival is something I will never forget. I told myself I would use my WBCB platform to give back to this organization any way that I could,” Goldberg recalled.

“Nottingham,” a Group 3 state champion, “TCA, and Trenton Central had such remarkable basketball seasons and our video stream numbers were through the roof. I figured we should cap off the historic season by donating our time and equipment to feature these athletes while giving back to the Dreamlift.”

The Slam Dunk and 3-Point Contest takes

place at Trenton Catholic Academy, Thursday, April 12 from 6:30 p.m. until about 8:30 with all proceeds benefiting the Sunshine Foundation Mercer County Dreamlift.

A $5 donation gains entry for a last glimpse of local scholastic stars including Ryan Weise of Allentown High, Ally Oldfield (Hopewell Valley), Natalie Mehl (Steinert), Jaycee Lowe (Ewing), Fiona Aromando (Robbinsville) and Gianna Boulden (TCA) list as girls’ 3-point shooters.

Nottingham High delivers Richie Jones and Kostro Montina as boys’ shooters along with Mike Kane (Notre Dame), Nasir McMillan (Trenton High), Jamal Anderson (Ewing), Shemar Robinson (Ewing) and Luke Vista (Hightstown).

Shemar Robinson (Ewing), Khalif Battle (TCA), Reggie James (Trenton High) and Cartier Bowman of Notre Dame participate as slam dunkers.
