Five netted in Trenton heroin trafficking bust
TRENTON » A six-month investigation led to the arrests of five men accused of trafficking heroin into the capital city from Philadelphia, authorities said.
Daquan Baylor, 26, of Ewing, was the big fish of the large-scale drug bust that led to about $200,000 in heroin being taken off the streets. The investigation involved state, local and federal authorities in two states.
“As the opioid addiction crisis continues to escalate across the country, I want these drug dealers to be on notice that we are going to fight in Mercer County,” Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said in a statement.
Four others were arrested, including Jonathan NunezCordero, 25, Armando Santos, 20, and Yoncarlo NunezCordero, 21, after authorities executed search warrants at several homes in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Cristian Baez-Belliard, 25, who was also nabbed in the drug bust, was being watched by authorities as he hid something underneath his jacket while leaving a home on Tampa Street in Philly and getting into a silver Nissan Sentra.
Officers followed the car to Ewing where Baez-Belliard met with Baylor who arrived in a white Nisssan Sentra. Cops moved in when they saw the men exchange drugs, prosecutors said.
Officers searched the cars and found 150 bricks of heroin in the front of Baylor’s Sentra, which had a secret stash compartment used to hide drugs and money. Cops recovered $20,980 in cash in Baez-Belliard’s vehicle.
Baylor’s Country Lane home in Ewing was searched and authorities found $2,800 in cash and seven Percocet pills.
Authorities searched the Tampa Street home, where they found a heroin “mill,” seizing 819 grams of dope along with another 750 bags, fentanyl and distribution materials.
Prosecutors want Baylor detained until trial while Baez-Belliard was released with a court date.
