Neither Trump nor his son-in-law can make peace in the middle east

- L.A. Parker Columnist

In May 2017 Donald Trump suggested an easy fix for Middle East problems that have existed for hundreds of years.

“We want to create peace between Israel and the Palestinians. We will get it done,” Trump said.

“We will be working so hard to get it done. I think there is a very good chance and I think we will.”

Later that same day, Trump, the greatest double downer of all time, restated his belief that Mideast peace seemed politically easy peasy, accomplishable with enhanced diplomacy.

Trump, the greatest artist and dealer of deals, offered this.

“(A Mideast peace) is something that I think is frankly, maybe, not as difficult as people have thought over the years,” Trump boasted.

December 2017 delivered added positive talk as Trump lavished Jared Kushner with praise, predicting that his 36-yearold son-in-law could broker a Middle East deal.

“If (Kushner) can’t produce peace in the Middle East, nobody can. All my life I‘ve been hearing that’s the toughest deal to make, but I have a feeling Jared is going to do a great job,” Trump, his bravado on full-tilt, praised.

Trump sounded significantly unassertive when he addressed the nation on Friday night about air strikes on Syria, following a suspected chemical attack.

“No amount of American blood or treasure can produce lasting peace and security in the Middle East. It’s a troubled place. We will try to make it better, but it is a troubled place.

“The United States will be a partner and a friend, but the fate of the region lies in the hands of its own people. In the last century, we looked straight into the darkest places of the human soul. We saw the anguish that can be unleashed and the evil that can take hold.”

Trump remains latched to perpetual presidential education mode, always learning on the job, always boasting, a businessman unable to forecast accurately shifts in world politics.

The President plays fast and loose with facts and crucial insights offered by men and women who understand the complexities of the Middle East.

Former President Barack Obama said “The Middle East is obviously an issue that has plagued the region for centuries.”

Obama’s offering may rank as an elementary observation for a complex world area but truth matters.

The Middle East remains a conundrum that will not be solved with irrational perceptions that Kushner nor any other person can solve without difficulty and astute diplomacy.
