Host Nottingham tops Conwell-Egan to win tourney

HAMILTON » In a late high school softball result from Saturday night, the Nottingham High softball team won its own invitation­al tournament.

In the championsh­ip game, the Northstars beat Conwell-Egan by the score of 8-5. After each team scored twice in the first inning, Nottingham pulled away with four in the fourth.

Ilana Nyktas led the Nottingham offense with three singles. In addition, Jayden Glazewski and Jordyn Varone doubled off loser pitcher Amber Stansfield.

Rebecca Bocock got the win and combined with Heather Clevenger on a fivehitter. Alyssa Fagans singled and doubled for Conwell-Egan. Earlier, Nottingham reached the final with a 10-0 win over East Brunswick. Clevenger pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven. Gabby Estrada homered, and Nyktas, Brianna Dunmeyer and Stella Spatola doubled.

Conwell-Egan, meanwhle, reached the final with a 13-2 win over Florence. Elizabeth Shire was the big hitter in that game with two doubles and a home run.
