Summertime is L.A.’s season, let the fun begin

Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer

You’ll wish that summer could always be here (Nat King Cole).

Summer begins June 21 and ends on September 22 although the next several days will reflect ideas inspired by Nat King Cole.

Weather forecasts predicted an upper-70s degrees temperature yesterday followed by high’s in the upper 80s for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Perfect for a segue regarding “Highs in the 70s”, an XPN radio segment hosted by Dan Reed Monday through Thursday.

Reed, who hosts those days from 4-7 p.m., romps through 1970s music of various genres, tripping listeners back forty years.

Okay, an early-summer bucket list includes the collection of every winter clothing item out of drawers, off hangers and shelves for the great clothing exchange.

A second bedroom has been converted to a dressing room. It’s not as Beau Brummelly as the former arbiter of England fashion nor as orderly and profound as the titled character in “Fifty Shades of Grey”, yet the changeover of clothing ranks as high achievement.

Let’s head outdoors for more summer fun as garden endeavors hope for plump tomatoes, strong basil and powerful peppers. Kale? Yeah!

Guess what? You have to know what perks my body temperature. It’s time to light the barbecue. Excuse the sound of trumpets but grilling vegetables, meats and fish over charcoal or chips deliver scrumptious dinner fare.

Thursdays and Sundays could deliver trips to Columbus Market while a Saturday morning trip to Englishtown Flea Market always produces excitement.

By the way, and this is not to muscle in on outdoor market entrepreneurs, but why do people pay $2.50 for a roasted ear of corn? Mind boggling.

Summer means buying three containers of ice cream or sherbet at Halo Farm in Ewing and Saturday trips to the Trenton Farmers Market.

Play golf. Watch golf. Dream golf.

Beach trips to Asbury Park and Ocean City serve as main attractions while a couple of camping trips to New Jersey’s pines courts relaxation and good books.

Nothing says summer like the city’s “Art All Night”, a 24hour event that begins Saturday, June 16.

First, there’s cake this weekend for a second birthday of grandchild number one and growing excitement for the arrival of her first sibling.

So, sun salutations for everyone and perhaps Dan Reed will honor listeners with “Hot Fun In The Summertime” by Sly and the Family Stone.

Yeah, it’s 1969 but it’s not everyday one can claim.

“Boop-boop-ba-boop-boop when I want to.”

If not then we can petition for War’s 1976 hit “Summer”.

My time of year.
