Five Area State Champions seek support for travel to national competition
TRENTON » Five area studentathletes have earned bids to represent the Garden State at the United States Championships in Utah this summer by virtue of medal-winning performances at the New Jersey Taekwondo finals earlier this year. The group needs support to help pay for their travels and has launched a fundraising effort.
“There are lots of costs that will be placed on these athletes’ families. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This opportunity is something that they have worked diligently for and will remember for a lifetime,” according to coach Jorge Pelaez, owner of Destiny Olympic TKD in Trenton.
According to Peleaz, his facility prides itself on teaching and upholding the fundamentals of Taekwondo. “What separates Taekwondo from other youth activities is simply our focus and emphasis on character development. Our athletes, all homegrown from here in the Trenton area, demonstrate strong discipline physically and respect for academics as well. Through Taekwondo, our students learn the balance of mind, body and spirit that they can use throughout their lives,” he said.
Area residents who would like to learn more about how they can support the student athletes can call Mr. Pelaez at (609) 213-2528, email him at jrgpel@hotmail.com or stop by Destiny Olympic TKD weekdays from 4-8 p.m. at 1012 Brunswick Avenue in Trenton.
