Steinert’s Whittaker tosses 2-hit shutout for win
LAWRENCE » Behind a dominating performance by junior Kaylee Whittaker, the Steinert softball team downed Notre Dame, 2-0, Wednesday in eight innings.
Whittaker completely shut down the Irish with a two-hitter and 12 strikeouts. Steinert had only four hits itself against Alexis Staniec, but did a huge two-run double from Cora Bridgers in the eighth. Alex Haley singled and doubled for Steinert. Lawrenceville took the lead in the fourth when Alyna Balewitz tripled and Kat McGrath followed with a home run. Ashton Martini won it with a homer in the seventh.
