FAIRLESS HILLS, PA. » What used to be for bragging rights in the entire area has now become the battle for bragging rights in Fairless Hills.

While the PennsburyConwell Egan softball series clearly isn’t what it used to be — remember when they used to play at night in front of big crowds in Lower Makefield? — Pennsbury sure wasn’t complaining after it beat the Eagles, 5-0, Friday.

Pennsbury (6-12), you see, is suffering through what very well may be its worst season ever and will not make the playoffs for the second time in three years. Still, a win is a win and senior Alyssa Hileman certainly looked in fine form by throwing a two-hitter and striking out five. Both of Conwell-Egan’s hits were

did a pretty good job herself by limiting Pennsbury to six hits, but the problem was four of them came in the same inning when Pennsbury pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Sydney Jakimowicz slapped the first hit of the game, Carli Parsons also reached on a fielder’s choice. From there, Arden Rabiger, Casey Glynn (two RBIs) and Sierra Daly all drove in runs with singles to give Hileman more than enough runs than she would need.

While Pennsbury will finish up its season with two games next week, ConwellEgan will be headed to the playoffs and is a huge favorite to win the District 12 Class AA bracket. Barring a huge upset on either end, it would set up a ConwellEgan game vs. Bristol in the first round of the state tournament in early June.
