She might only be a sophomore, but Jesse DeDomenico understands the expectations and responsibility that comes when you stand in the circle at the collegiate level.

DeDomenico, the former Hightstown High star pitcher, has accepted the challenge and has played a major role in Rowan’s New Jersey Athletic Conference championship and second straight berth in the NCAA tournament. DeDomenico has a 20-7 record, a very impressive 1.06 ERA and 136 strikeouts.

The lofty numbers earned DeDomenico a spot on the All-NJAC first team this season.

“It was a great honor and I was very humbled by it,’’ said DeDomenico. “It’s all been very exciting for me.’’

It got a lot more exciting on Saturday in the NCAA as DeDomenico kept the Profs hopes alive, notching the win in a 13-0 defeat of Staten Island.

DeDomenico did it in style, tossing a no-hitter and sending Rowan to face Penn State Berks again later Saturday.

“I gained a lot of experience last year pitching the regionals,’’ said DeDomenico. ”I feel comfortable and I have a great team behind me. We have the opportunity and we have the talent to win.’’ playoff-bound Mary Washington defense.
