Saluting all the unsung players from around the area
Not every player finds her name in the box score or newspaper, yet they play a vital role in the success of their team.
They are the players who might not score the goals, make a great play, but they work hard every day in practice and can always be counted on the go that extra step when it’s needed in every game.
The Trentonian would like to recognize a player from each Colonial Valley Conference and Prep school as the 2018 Unsung Player honoree.
GIANNA SKOWRONSKI (ALLENTOWN) » The senior has had such a positive effect on the Redbirds’ defense they have dubbed her “G-fense” because of her great fundamental skills. Always a player who is in the right place at the right time, Skowronski always brings a positive encouraging attitude to the team.
ASHTON STEMLER (EWING) » A year ago, injuries kept Stemler on the sidelines and yet every day she was at practice watching and learning. Well, that dedication paid off as the sophomore has become an integral part of the Blue Devil attack. A great team player, she is always working hard not to let her teammates and coaches down. VICTORIA MARTIN (HAMILTON) » A three-year member of the Hornets and now a captain, Martin has been a key to the success of the team. She is a leader on and off the field and a player who always gives her all every time on the field whether it be a game or practice.
NATASHA FIDLER (HIGHTSTOWN) » A player who has earned the respect of her teammates and coaches by her leadership on and off the field. Not only is Fidler a top defender, she’s like a coach on the field helping the defense make adjustments. Her guidance and play has been a key to the Rams’ success.
CARLY SISON (HOPEWELL VALLEY) » Just a sophomore, this two-year starter has established herself as a player who can be dangerous all over the field. A very capable and dependable defender, Sison can handle the draw and make an easy transition to the attack. A true team player, Sison can be counted on by coaches and teammates.
KENDAL NEHLIG (HUN) » Many times play on the defensive end can get very hectic, but Nehlig always brings a calm demeanor. While her temperament stays level on the field, her work ethic is off the charts. A dedicated teammate many times it has been her play that got the Hun transition game going .
YASMINE HACHICHA (LAWRENCE) » It has been the steady play of Hachicha that has helped the Cardinals win back-to-back division titles. She is the anchor of the defense and with her hardworking attitude, Hachicha does a great job causing turnovers and getting the transition game going.
NICO SACCHI (LAWRENCEVILLE) » The attack might be effective, but for the Big Red it all starts with the defense and Sacchi is the senior leader in the back. She takes control and sets up the schemes and keeps everyone on the same page. A player who has taken a step forward each of her four years, and now has become a premier defender.
CARLY PERSICHILLI (NOTRE DAME) » A senior who has stepped in and played a key role in the Irish’s vaunted defense. A captain, she has taken the role seriously helping the younger players mature. A player who always has a smile and her concern for her teammates is unequaled. On the field, she brings a strong sense of the game and does a great job of anticipating game situations.
KATHRYN TRUBAN (NOTTINGHAM) » Truban is a player who leaves it all on the field for her teammates no matter what the score or the situation. She is a key to the Northstar program as it continues to grow with her play on the field and her positive personality.
ABBY MALEY (PEDDIE) » Playing in the midfield there’s a bit of defense, a bit of offense and bunch of other things to accomplish. Maley does them all expertly. She has been a key to the Falcons getting the draw, her defense has been outstanding, and she has been a player who always gives her all and that has earned her the respect of her teammates.
KAELA COLYAR (PENNINGTON) » She is a player who has been a jack of all trades for the Red Raiders. She begins the game on defense and always finds her way up to the attack due to the stability and calmness she brings to the field. She has been a dedicated team player for four years. SERENA BOLITHO (PRINCETON) » A player who always battles every second she is on the field, and wherever there’s a ground ball Bolitho’s believes it’s hers and most times she gets it. A complete team player, she’s always helping and supporting her teammates. GWENDOLYN ALLEN (PRINCETON DAY) » A player who has really come into her own this season for the Panthers. A tireless worker, Allen’s play has been a key on the defense, the draw and in getting the transition game going. Along with her growth as a player has been the leadership role she has taken.
CLARE HERRERA (ROBBINSVILLE) » One of the things the Ravens could count on all season was a complete effort from Herrera every time she was on the field, in practice and in games. Her work ethic produced many positive plays for Robbinsville and her game savvy in creating turnovers, getting ground balls and making a key interception was crucial to the Ravens’ success. ASHLEY GOIMBERT (STEINERT) » A very gifted athlete, Goimbert, who is known as ‘Gummy Bear,’ always gives a complete effort on the field. She has a great sense of awareness that has allowed her to continually make key plays for the Spartans.
GRACE SHEPPARD (STUART) » A very intense player whether in the game or practice, Sheppard works hard every day to become a better player and a better teammate. This is a young Stuart team and her interaction with the younger players have been invaluable in their growth.
MARIA TELLO (WW-P NORTH) » Tello is a player who has continued to learn the game and work hard every day to become a better player. She’s very talented and when she has the ball in her stick she can do some amazing things. Tello is a player who leads by example and has been a positive influence for the Knights. AMANDA GUEST (WW-P SOUTH) » A player who has an impact all over the field for the Pirates, but it has been her play on defense that has been exceptional. Guest is a shutdown defender in the midfield, a player who causes turnovers and does a great job in the South transition game.
