Joseph Burnette, departed this life on Wednesday,

May 16, 2018 at Compassion­ate Care Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.

Born in Warrenton, North Carolina, Joseph received his formal education in the Warren County Public School District. He continued his education majoring in tailoring at A&T University, Greensboro, NC.

He was baptized at an early age. Since 1979, he has been a member of Saint Phillips Baptist Church of Hamilton, New Jersey with many years as a Deacon and Trustee.

He became a business owner over fifty years ago by opening a popular dry cleaning store. His concluding business was Burnette’s Tailoring where he did tailoring, alteration­s and good counsel too many customers.

He was predecease­d by his parents, Rufus and Cleo Cheek Burnette and his wife, Geuqlyn (Gege). He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Daryl and Brian and two daughters, Carla and Yolonda (Renee); two sisters, Mary Stanford and Ruby Burnette; eight grandchild­ren, four great grandchild­ren; three sisters in law, Sheila (Fred) Johnson, Natalie Caruth and Selena Johnson; two additional brothers-inlaw, Elroy Johnson and Jeffrey Johnson; nieces, nephews, cousins, his clients throughout the years, his Finance Room buddies and special friends Allen McKenzie and Larry Upshur, and his Saint Phillips family.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Saint Phillips Baptist Church, 445 Parkinson Avenue, Hamilton, NJ.

Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery,

Calling hours will be 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the church.
