Samuel McCoy III was born on April 21, 1949, to the late Neta Bell Simms Christie and the late Samuel McCoy II in New York City, New York.

In 1950, his family moved to Trenton, NJ. Sam was educated in the Trenton Public School System. Throughout his career, he worked at Fairless Steel, Trenton Housing Authority and Rick Bus Company. In 1970, Sam joined his Uncle Marion Hyman to operate Hyman Liquors in Trenton, NJ. After the passing of his uncle, Sam went on to own and operate the business until 2004. Sam and his family were members of Change Church, Ewing NJ.

For over 40 years, Sam coached North Trenton Little League, Babe Ruth and numerous traveling teams while securing several championsh­ips. It was a sport, which he grew up loving and excelling in as a varsity player at Trenton Central High School. When Coach Sam walked onto the field, they announced him as, “The Legend.” He is known for his curve ball, slider pitch, bunting techniques and how to properly run the bases. Predecease­d in death by his son, Samuel D. McCoy, brother Richard Robinson Sr. and nephew Kevin Higgenboth­am.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Toni McCoy of Hamilton, NJ, his children Andre McCoy (Lawrence) of San Diego, CA and Tennille R. McCoy of Hamilton, NJ., sister Adrea Higgenboth­am, 8 grandchild­ren, 8 great grandchild­ren, best friend Jimmie Journigan and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11am, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Change Church (formerly Kingdom) 200 Ludlow Ave. Calling hours will be 9am until time of service at the church. Interment Ewing Cemtery. Arrangemen­ts are by the Hughes Funeral Home.
