Neshaminy and CR North both advance in PIAA playoffs

The Neshaminy and Council Rock North softball teams both advanced Wednesday in the PIAA District 1 Class 6A playoffs.

By winning the result is on Friday afternoon the two will face each other in the quarterfin­al round. The winner will advance to the state tourney no matter what happens in the remainder of district play. The loser can also make states by playing back to fifth.

NESHAMINY 7, RIDLEY 1 LANGHORNE, PA. » The Redskins got over their opening-round hurdle when Sarah Dowalo (five strikeouts) and Amber Brugger (three Ks) combined on a three-hitter. Natalie Rios and Olivia Fee each had two hits. Liana Jones drove in two runs.

CR NORTH 5, AVON GROVE 4 AVON GROVE, PA. » The Indians (137) won a 10-inning thriller behind yet another big game from Riley Sheehey who went 3-for-4 with an inside-thepark home run and four RBIs. Katie Procell had a big pinch-hit RBI single. Lauren Begg scattered 12 hits for the wins and was backed by doubles from Abbie Seiple and Madison Tomlinson. CR North (12-7) 002 010 000 2 — 5

Lexi Blue homered and collected three hits with four RBIs. Julia Mayernik also homered. Madison Sisz, Cameron Cassidy, Megan Berg and Nicole Bondoc all had two hits.

NEW EGYPT 3, HENRY HUDSON 1 HIGHLANDS » The Warriors continued their remarkable second-half surge by taking out the top seed. Once again, Chloe Lewis was outstandin­g with a two-hitter and 15 strikeouts. Lewis also homered off the glove of an outfielder as New Egypt improved to 9-10 after being 1-9. New Egypt will be at Pt. Pleasant Beach next.
