Edelstein predicts Golden State will take down ‘King’ James

Thousands of years from now, people won’t say LeBron James gave a Herculean effort in the 2018 NBA playoffs.

- Jeff Edelstein Jeff Edelstein is a columnist for The Trentonian.

They will instead be saying something like, “Hercules put up a LeBronian effort when he toppled Zeus” or whatever it is Hercules did.

Really: Watching LeBron James lead the Cavs to the NBA finals has been nothing short of unreal. His supporting cast is BLeague all the way. Next year, assuming he moves on, the Cavs are a 20-win team. It’s been incredible to witness.

It’s also been done against the Celtics, who are missing their two best players, the Raptors, who can never get out of their own way, and a Pacers team that while fun and exciting, also were woefully not ready for prime time.

Now James and his ragtag bunch of misfits are taking on the Golden State Warriors, a team whose four best players — Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green — are all better at their positions than anyone the Cavs had played yet. (What I mean is any of them would send someone to the bench on the Celtics, Raptors, or Pacers.)

They are a superteam who beat a better Cavs team last year.

LeBron — er, the Cavs — just don’t have a fighting chance here. It’s a mismatch of historic proportions. While it would be one of the greatest stories in sports history, LeBron single-handedly taking this team all the way, it’s just not going to happen.

I am convinced I could be the Warriors’ fifth starter and they’d still sweep.
