Princeton sweeps twinbill from Trenton

TRENTON » A run in the bottom of the ninth started the Princeton Post 218 baseball team’s day right at Wetzel Field Saturday.

That run gave Post 218 a 3-2 win over Trenton Posts 93 & 182 in the completion of their suspended game from June 5. Princeton turned around and defeated the Schroths, 24-7, in six innings in the regularly scheduled game between the two to improve to 3-11 in Mercer County American Legion League.

Kevin Flahive went 2-for-2 for Post 218 in the opener. Juan Pena and Jefery Azcona knocked in runs for Trenton.

Paul Cooke picked up his second win of the day in the second game as Zachary Yoelson-Angeline went 3-for-6 with a double, a grand slam and nine runs batted in to lead Princeton. Cooke went 3-for-4 and scored six times.

Peña knocked in three runs for Posts 93 & 182 in that contest.

HAMILTON 3, N. HAMILTON 2 HAMILTON » For the second time this season, Post 31 held off the Hibernians, this time at Nottingham High.

Hamilton came up with two runs in the top of the sixth to break open a 1-1 tie before North Hamilton tried to rally in the seventh.

Jordan Nitti went 2-for-3 and drove in a run for Post 31, while Jack Parker was also 2-for-3 for the Hibos.

BROAD ST. PARK 3, LAWRENCE 1 LAWRENCE » Justin Wiltsey went 2-for-2 and scored a run, while Darius Land knocked in a pair to help Post 313 rally past Post 414 at Eggerts Crossing Park.

Justin Frascella got Lawrence on the board first when he plated Aidan Jodoin (3-for-4) in the bottom of the first inning.

EWING 12, WW-P 6 PRINCETON JCT. » Post 314 scored 10 times in the top of the fourth inning to defeat West Windsor-Plainsboro at WW-P High South.

Winning pitcher Jake Storer and his batterymat­e, Greg Robbins, had two RBIs apiece for Ewing.

Scott Doherty went 3-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for WW-P.

ALLENTOWN 2-2, BORDENTOWN 0-8 BORDENTOWN » A’town and B’town split a doublehead­er at Gilder Park.

A.J. Ariano pitched a threehitte­r with nine strikeouts to steer Allentown to a win in the opening game with Austin Ferrier and Aydon Chavis driving in the only runs in the first inning.

Kyle Forcini went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs and four RBIs to help Bordentown’s bats come back to life in the second game. Kyle Marchetti also homered for Post 26.

Meanwhile, pitchers Tyler Blue, Ryan Feig and John Schroeder limited the visitors to four hits.
