Lawrence knocks off unbeaten Hopewell

HOPEWELL TWP. » The Lawrence Post 414 baseball team became the first team from the Mercer County American Legion League to defeat Hopewell Post 339 this season when manager Jason Zegarski’s squad defeated manager Mike Coryell’s team, 6-3, Monday at Hopewell Valley High.

With the game tied at 1 in the top of the fifth inning, Post 414 (7-6) broke out to score four runs before adding another in the seventh.

Ryan Sullivan went 2-for-2 with a run batted in for Lawrence, while Chris Conti had two RBIs.

Luke Blair tried to keep Post 339 (11-1) in line for the win with a double, a triple and two RBIs. Like Blair, Jake Tobia went 2-for-3 and had a double.

Justin Cross tossed a threehitte­r for South Brunswick. Bordentown’s Tyler Blue suffered the loss.

Shawne Eldridge was credited with Post 401’s lone RBI. Kyle Marchetti did the same for Post 26.
