David C. Evans, 77, former Mayor of Ewing Township passed away on Sunday July 22nd. Born in Trenton, he lived in Ewing Township since 1965. He served on the Ewing Township Committee from 1976 to 1985 and served as Mayor in 1978 and 1983. He also served as Civil Defense Director, Court Administra­tor and was the Director the Ewing Community Center. He was a graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys High School and Rider University.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Ewing Knights of Columbus, Council 3756; Trenton Elks #105; Ewing Legion Post #314; Ewing Lions Club; Catholic War Veterans #407; N.J. Conference of Mayors; Fraternal Order of Police-Lodge #83; Vietnam Veterans United; Ewing Busy “Cs” Senior Club, Rider University Alumni, and was a N.J. Blind and Handicappe­d volunteer. He was an usher at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, West Trenton for many years. He received the following awards:

Public Administra­tor by Ewing Community Club and Citizen of the Year by the Ewing Knights of Columbus, Council No. 3756. His hobbies were traveling, reading and sports. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets and New York Giants. He retired in 2004, with over 30 years of government service. The last 12 years as the Director of the Hollowbroo­k Community Center in Ewing Township. He was elected into the Ewing Recreation Hall of Fame in 2001. Son of the late Dewi and Madeline Crawford Evans, he is survived by a sister, Pat MacLean of Ohio; and nephews Dr. Douglas and Jill MacLean of Mason, Ohio and Gregory and Julie MacLean Julie of Monclova, Ohio, a niece Laura Rosborough of Concord Twp., Ohio, great nieces and nephews, Evan, Caitlin and Brandon Rosborough, Will, Kate, Kelly and Daniel MacLean, many cousins and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel RC Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road in West Trenton on Saturday July 28th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington and Saturday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers contributi­ons may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 137 West Upper Ferry Road, West Trenton, NJ 08628 or the Catholic Diocese of Trenton.
