Tebow to miss remainder of the season with broken hand
Tim Tebow’s season doesn’t sound like it will finish in a Mets uniform.
Tebow’s impressive campaign with Double-A Binghamton ended after he broke the hamate bone in his right hand during the weekend series against the Thunder.
The quarterback-turnedoutfielder suffered the injury in Thursday night’s series opener and reported to manager Luis Rojas that he didn’t feel comfortable swinging the bat.
He was sent to New York for an X-ray and MRI on Friday and then saw a hand specialist on Monday. Hamate bone fractures usually 60 57 50 42 40 43 50 58 .600 .570 .500 .420 5 8 15 23 require 6-8 weeks recovery time, Mets assistant GM John Ricco said.
“So his season is effectively over,” Ricco said.
Tebow slashed .273/.336/.399 with six homers and 36 RBIs in 84 games. The 30-yearold was named an Eastern League All-Star and was also on pace to earn a call-up to the Mets in September. He’s going to miss the last month, month-plus. But to see a guy who in a couple short years is now competing at the Double-A level and thriving, really — the last couple months he was playing really well, so I don’t Oakland at Texas, 8:05 p.m. Houston at Colorado, 8:40 p.m. Chicago White Sox at L.A. “He did a great job this year,” said Thunder skipper Jay Bell, who managed Tebow in the EL ASG. “I was really impressed with the fact that he competed as well as he did at this level. This is a good level to use as a test and he passed.”
