CAMP NOTES

-

Coaches corner: The heat, humidity and grind swallowed the Eagles Wednesday. When Doug Pederson ended practice early, it almost was the play of the day. “They are working extremely hard,” Pederson said. “The effort is there. We’re throwing a lot at these guys, veterans and young players. It’s just a part of camp and we’ve just got to work through it, fight through some of these days.” The Thursday practice is full contact, full pads with short yardage and goal line drills.

Players corner: Veteran newcomers Haloti Ngata and Michael joined Fletcher Cox and Derrick Barnett on the first team defensive line. Barring injury, consider that your starting lineup for opening night. … Speaking of D-linemen, the group was dominated by the O-line in the pass rush drills. Even rugby star Jordan Mailata, the offensive tackle out of Sydney, Australia, looked like he had a future. Brandon Graham (ankle), who led the squad with 9½ sacks last season, and DT Tim Jernigan (back) aren’t practicing.

Quotable: “I watch him probably more than anybody because he brings the speed and the size and the twitch. He does pretty much what I would see myself doing as a rusher.” — Fourth-round pick Josh Sweat on Brandon Graham.

Play of the day: Dallas Goedert used his 10-inch paw to grab a Nick Foles pass for a TD in a red zone drill. Ronald Darby had the coverage. Goedert beat Rodney McLeod on another red zone snap. Concern of the day: Shelton Gibson is in the concussion protocol for that collision he had Tuesday. Also, running back Matt Jones has a lower body injury.
