Sweeping the streets
So, we have a new mayor, and now we don’t have street sweepers coming down McKinley Ave. any more, nor do we have parking enforcement ticketing on sweeper days. What gives? — A reader
Funny because the street sweeper initiative was such a big deal/ordeal. Though I think you need to reach out to Public Works to see if you can get this addressed directly. — Ed Note I’m a veteran of three Wars and I remember when in the forties when we come up on the boat coming back to United States. We got off the boat dock in New York. There was hundreds of us that knelt down when they played the national anthem, but we didn’t do it against our flag or Anthem. We knelt the thank God that we came back in full body. Nothing happened to me and I was thanking God. Maybe these ball players are protesting on their knees. Thanking God they’re in a country that they can protest. Maybe that’s what they’re doing. God bless them all and God bless America. — A reader
Amen to that. They are protesting policies and problems, not protesting the flag itself or the country. They should be grateful that they are in a country where folks like you fought for their freedom to question the system. My father was in two wars as well and he taught me that loving my country can go hand-in-hand with questioning things that the government is doing (though I wasn’t allowed to question him, just other authority figures). — Ed Note
