Battling Alzheimer’s

-

Over the past few years my mom has been becoming increasingly forgetful due to dementia, most likely Alzheimer’s disease. In just a few short years she has moved from an independent living situation to assisted living. Now she must transition to memory care to provide her with set schedules and routines to help reduce stress. My mom was always helping others and went all over Long Island and Monmouth County. It has been extremely difficult and upsetting to see her digress for me and my family.

Recently, I spent a long time with mom in a memory care unit. I observed that so many individuals and families struggling as they deal with the horrible disease. Looking back, it didn’t concern me until it personally affected me.

While looking for help, I discovered that my own Congressman (Chris Smith), has dedicated over a decade providing support for Alzheimer’s and other Dementia related diseases. Congressman Smith Sponsored and Co-Sponsored Legislation to provide funds for treatment research, care and support for the caregivers.

Thank you Congressman Chris Smith for all the effort you have put forth to find treatments and build community centers of excellence to help battle this disease that takes everything away from you. Please keep up the great work!
