PRINCETON

Man Drowns: At 2:52p.m. Friday, Princeton Police were notified by a 9-1-1caller of a man who had jumped into Lake Carnegie off of the dock near the boat launch. He swam for a few moments before disappearing under water and failing to resurface. Three Princeton Police officers arrived on scene at 2:55p.m. Two police officers entered into the water and searched the area where a friend of the victim reported seeing the victim enter the water. The officers observed bubbles coming to the surface as the third officer probed the area with a pole from the dock. One of the officers went underwater and located the victim, grabbed him by the arm and pulled him to the surface. All three officers and Princeton first aid and rescue squad members placed the victim on the dock and immediately began CPR at 3:03p.m. The victim was subsequently taken to an area hospital, where despite the efforts of all involved at the scene and the efforts of the medical staff, the victim was pronounced deceased at 3:54 p.m. Police on Friday were not releasing the victim’s identity pending the notification of his family. This matter remains under investigation by the Princeton Police Detective Bureau.

BENSALEM, Pa.

Alleged Gunman Arrested: Anthony H. Bupp, 23, of the 1100block of Brill Street, Philadelphia, was arrested Friday afternoon on allegations he pulled a gun on a Pennsylvania State Police trooper while fleeing after a traffic stop in

Bensalem. Meanwhile, Bucks County District Attorney Matthew D. Weintraub announced that a second person involved in the incident is being sought. Trooper Mohamad Saloukha had just assisted Bensalem Township police officers with an unrelated arrest when he stopped a suspicious vehicle near the Wawa store in the 3600block of Street Road at 1:26p.m. As Saloukha questioned Bupp, who had been a passenger in the vehicle, and attempted to pat him down for weapons, the suspect fled on foot, police alleged. The trooper pursued him, drawing his Taser in an effort to subdue him. Police said Bupp then turned and displayed a darkcolored handgun, prompting Saloukha to discard the Taser and reach for his own firearm. The suspect continued to flee, clearing a fence and disappearing. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle the trooper had stopped drove away. Police established a perimeter in the Nottingham neighborhood and called in reinforcements, including K-9teams, to conduct a search. Bupp was located in a backyard by a K-9team and was taken into custody shortly before 3p.m. Friday. He directed officers to the gun he had discarded, court documents said. Bupp told police in an interview that he had pointed the gun at Saloukha in hopes of “slowing him down,” the documents said. Bupp was arraigned early Saturday morning before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Baranoski on felony charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a firearm without a license, and several related misdemeanors. Baranoski set bail at $3million, 10percent cash, and Bupp was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in lieu of that bail. A preliminary hearing for Bupp is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 22before Magisterial District Judge Michael W. Gallagher of Bensalem. Weintraub commended officers involved in the incident for their professionalism and restraint in keeping the public safe and in not firing their weapons. “The Pennsylvania State Police, and all police officers in Bucks County, are sworn to protect us,” he said. “Sometimes that means drawing a weapon and firing. Sometimes that means drawing a weapon and not firing. “I am relieved to say that the armed subject of today’s manhunt has been apprehended with no shots fired and no injuries,” Weintraub said. “His gun has been recovered. I commend all law enforcement, including the Pennsylvania State Police and the Bensalem Police Department, for the professional manner in which they handled this critical incident.” The driver of the vehicle is still being sought. The vehicle was described as a dark gray Dodge Charger with a red or maroon trunk and a temporary Florida license tag T207777on the rear of the car. Anyone seeing the vehicle or having information about the driver is urged to call Pennsylvania State Police at (215) 942-3900.
