Neshaminy stuffed by North Penn

LANGHORNE, PA. » North Penn’s defense stopped Oleh Manzyk short of the goal line as Neshaminy went for a two-point conversion in the second overtime and the visiting Knights held on for a thrilling 34-33 seasonopen­ing win Friday night at Harry E. Franks Stadium.

After both teams failed to score in the opening overtime, Julian White’s five-yard touchdown run gave North Penn a 34-27 edge in the second extra session.

On Neshaminy’s first play of the 2OT, quarterbac­k Brody McAndrew dashed into the end zone from 10 yards out. The

‘Skins elected to go for two and the win but Manzyk, who rushed for three TDs on the night, was first met by White then DJ Fisher and tackled short of the end zone and the Knights stormed the field to celebrate a fourth straight win over Neshaminy.

North Penn looked like it had wrapped up the win with a fourth-quarter rally.

White’s 11-yard TD run gave the Knights a 20-19 lead with 5:53 in the final quarter. Andy Cole picked off McAndrew two plays into the next Neshaminy series and on its ensuing drive NP grabbed a 27-19 advantage after a White five-yard TD run.

But Neshaminy marched 69 yards to tie the game in the final minute. McAndrew found Logan Williamson for a 26-yard completion down to the North Penn one and Manzyk punched it in on the next play to make it 27-25 at 1:07. Manzyk then bullied into the end zone on the two-point conversion to tie the game at 27.

In the first overtime, North Penn (1-0) forced Neshaminy (0-1) to turn the ball over on downs. But with a chance to win, the Knights fumbled away the ball on their first offensive play.

Manzyk gave Neshaminy a 7-0 lead on the ‘Skins first drive of the season, dashing 56 yards for a touchdown at 9:29 in the first quarter.

North Penn pulled level at 9:39 in the second quarter on Shamar Edwards’ 43yard touchdown run.

The Knights grabbed a 14-7 lead when Jon Haynes hauled in a 43-yard TD pass from Solomon Robinson at 5:34 before halftime.

Neshaminy cut the Knights’ advantage to 14-13 at the break as McAndrew found Bobby Buchys in the end zone for a 12-yard TD pass at 43.9 seconds.

The Redskins took a 1914 lead with 34.4 seconds left in the third went Manzyk broke free for a 49-yard TD run.
