NEWTOWN, PA. >> It’s a script that has played out over and over ever since North Penn took over from Central Bucks West as by far the most dominant football program in the district.

It’s one thing to throw a scare into the Knights. Somehow, someway, it almost always seems to be a much different matter when it comes to actually beating them.

The last example occurred Friday night when Council Rock South (4-2) gave North Penn (6-0) all it could handle, but still came up just short in double overtime by the score of 27-24.

It all came down to field goals in the second OT after each team had scored in the first overtime on their first plays from the line of scrimmage.

In North Penn’s case, it took the lead on a 10-yard keeper around right end by Solomon Robinson before Rock South came right back with a 10-yard bolt up the middle by Chase Patterson.

In the second overtime Rock South went first and after a couple of running plays went nowhere and an offensive pass interference call, it was forced to try a 33-yard field goal. This never had a chance as North Penn blocked it to put itself in commanding position.

From there, Dick Beck’s Knights went the conservative route by running the ball three times to set up the gamewinning 22-yard field goal by Ayboud Cherradi.

It was the second time this year North Penn left Lower Bucks County with a win in overtime after beating Neshaminy on opening night. And it was accomplished in a similar manner as the Knights gave up the lead at the end of the fourth quarter when Rock South was able to drive the field and score the tying touchdown on an 8-yard crossing pass to Nick Gallo with :20 remaining.
