- By Steve Bassin

PLAINSBORO >> For the second straight week, senior running back Michael Quigg had two rushing touchdowns and the Hightstown football team was victorious again, rolling to a 33-9 win over West WindsorPlainsboro in WW-P’s first and only game this season at WW-P North.

Quigg got the Rams rolling right off the back, accounting for 36 yards on the ground, including a 10-yard touchdown run around the right side to give Hightstown a 7-0 on the first possession of the game.

WW-P looked to have answered the Rams’ score on its first offensive drive of the game, but a illegal shift penalty brought back a 44-yard TD catch and run by Elijah Powell and ultimately led to a punt.

The Rams added to their touchdown lead to begin the second quarter.

After a late-hit out-of-bounds penalty by helped continue the Hightstown drive, Jarrett Justice joined the touchdown party, taking the handoff from Quigg on the jet sweep off left-tack for a nine-yard scoring run to put the Rams ups 14-0.

“The offensive line was blocking great all game,” Justice said. “The edge was wide open most of the game.”

WWP got down into the red zone on its next possession, but a block in the back penalty on a run by Jahmiq Johnson pushed it back. Johnson hurt his left arm on the play and did not return, finishing with 48 yards passing on the night

WW-P did though get on the board as Joe Potenza banged in a 45-yard field goal to make it 20-3 with under five minutes left to play in the half.

Just like last week against Lawrence, Hightstown ended the first half with a scoring drive with, who else, Quigg leading the way, running in for his second touchdown of the half to cover a 4th-and-1 from the WW-P 4-yard line to give the Rams a 20-3 lead at the half.

“That touchdown was huge for us,” Quigg said. “It really boosted our morals and fuled to us to get more scores in the second half.”

Quigg rushed for 130 yards in the first half. He finished with a game-high 162 rushing yards for Hightstown.

Hightstown extend its lead to 27-3 when Emmanuel Mikros scored his first touchdown of the game on a 10-yard sweep to give the Rams three players with rushing touchdowns in the game.

Justice gave the Rams two players with two rushing touchdowns on the night, running off left tackle for a 15-yard touchdown run on third down to make a 33-3 contest. The junior also had an interception to along with his two touchdowns and over 100 yards runs in the Hightstown win.

“It all started up front with our offensive line,” said Hightstown head coach Ryan Fullen. “They set the tone from the first drive on for us and Mike and Jarrett followed by running ball well behind them.”

Hightstown accounted for close to 300 yards rushing in the contest.

Down big, WWP showed no quit and got its first and only touchdown of the game on a strike from backup quarterback Arjun Jaswal to Powell, who ran up the sideline for a 40-yard score with just a minute left to play.

Powell had 81 yards receiving in the contest.

With the win, Hightstown improves to 3-1, while WW-P drops to 0-4 on the season.

This was Hightstown’s first win at WW-P North since 2005, going 0-4 in that span before clinching its second-straight victory on Friday night. Hightstown (3-1 ) 7 13 7 6 WW-P(0-4)0306
