Kavanaugh will probably get confirmed, but ...

- Jeff Edelstein

Do I think Brett Kavanaugh will be confirmed to the Supreme Court? I do, and it’s because Republicans control the Senate and they’ll get the votes. Of course, if the FBI investigation turns up something toxic and provable, he won’t be confirmed, but assuming nothing major occurs, then yep, he’s getting his robes.

And the only reason - the only reason - is because Republicans have the votes and he’s their man. If the Democrats controlled the Senate, then he’d be kicked to the curb. And - to be clear - if the Democrats controlled the Senate, and if Kavanaugh was pro-choice and all other liberal talking points, and he also was accused of something untoward, I also think he’d still get confirmed.

Bottom line: Partisan politics is worse than ever, and the United States Supreme Court is paying for it. (Sidenote: The way we get a Supreme Court is profoundly stupid. Nominated by a president, confirmed by a turn. He seems like a d-bag. He reminds me of O’Bannion, Ben Affleck’s character in “Dazed and Confused.”

But whatever. It doesn’t matter. He’s either is a jerk or he’s not, he either sexually assaulted women or he didn’t. All that really matters today is that he’s a lockstep conservative and the conservatives have the votes and that’s that.
