High schoolers volunteer at The First Tee of Greater Trenton instruction program
They were brothers in arms, at least on this midSeptember morning.
Five local youth delivered a wraparound shoulder line embrace before they served as mentors for The First Tee of Greater Trenton golf instructional program at Cadwalader Park.
Though few attended the event, this quintet of high school students offered their wisdom and attention to an interested group.
Rehan Yadav of Pennington, Abdullah Vohra of Princeton, Jacob McGill of Trenton, Aaron Yagnik and Raymon Jin, both from Plainsboro passed along information they have learned from The First Tee of Greater Trenton program.
Attendees were taught basic ideas pertaining to the golf swing while also being schooled on the organization’s nine core values that incorporate honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility perseverance, courtesy and judgment as important life skills.
These core values serve as tenets valuable for most people who want successful lives.
The father of Abdullah Vohra offered interesting insight after several people thanked his son for a donation of time and experience.
“Abdullah and the other young men don’t realize this now but what they’re doing will make a big difference for their own lives. In time they will understand,” Mr. Vohra said.
The First Tee of Greater Trenton hopes to impact hundreds of public students during the 2018-2019 school year.
“We hope to have The First Tee National School Program in none city schools, an outreach that will introduce golf to 300400 students,” Ed Benson, executive director for The First Tee of Greater Trenton, said.
Benson added meetings with Trenton Central High School Athletic Director Sharon Grady and Schools Superintendent Fred McDowell provided positive results.
“Plus, we’ve trained 35 physical education teachers to teach the National School Program skills which offer golf and life instruction,” Benson added.
