Ann Pauline Schindler Kawalek died 22 May 2018 while in residence at the Pacifica Senior Living Facility in Riverside, CA.

Ann was predecease­d by her husband, Joseph K. Kawalek, in December 1973, and her natural siblings, Lela Schinault, Herman, Louis, and Henry. They were all the children of Moritz and Clara (Schweihs) Schindler, who were itinerant farmers. She was also pre-deceased by her half-sister Frances {Schindler) Coffey {AZ), the daughter of her stepmother, Hazel (Brinkley) Schindler. Ann was born in Kenedy, TX on 18 Dec 1926.

She is survived by her children, Joseph C. Kawalek, Jr. (Rosella} of Frederick, MD; Barbara Ann McCoy (Gene) of Bensalem, PA, and Michael David Kawalek (Hasnah) of Riverside, CA. She is also survived by half siblings: Robert Schindler (Patty) (NV); Lillian Cornwell (Clinton) (AZ); Ruth Moran {Ralph)(AZ); Clara Jackson (Herb)(OK); Edward Schindler (Aurora){WA), and sisters-in-law, Helen Schindler {Herman) of New Castle, CA and Janice Benefield (Louis) Schindler of Blythe, CA. Grammie1s surviving grandchild­ren include: Brian McCoy (Doreen) of Newtown, PA and Scott McCoy (Kelty) of Lawrencevi­lle, GA; Kiera Ann Kawalek-Nay {Randy) of Martinsbur­g, WV; James Andrew Kawalek (Jessica} of Frederick, MD, and Andrew Hamdan KawaJek of Riverside, CA. In addition, she is survived by her great grandchild­ren: Amanda McCoy,. Harper SueAnn Kawalek., and the stepchildr­en of Scott McCoy: Joseph Marazio (Kendall), Samantha Marazio, and Miyah Marazio, child of Amber Marazio {deceased), in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins in CA, AZ, ID, TX, NJ and PA.

While working at the local bus station in Stockton, CA during WWII, she met and eventually married her husband, Joseph, and gave birth to her eldest son, Joseph, Jr. After Joseph Sr., was discharged from the US Army in early 1946, they moved back to his hometown, Trenton, NJ, where they lived and raised their three children. She worked as a waitress and developed many regular clientele over the course of 40+ years {1950s - 1990s) in several well-known area restaurant­s including: Pat’s Diner on South Broad Street, Town & Country Restaurant in Bordentown., and the Ramada Inn in Cranbury/Hightstown, NJ.

Because her father stopped her education beyond elementary school, she instilled the need for her children to progress as far as possible in their education with Joseph and Michael both earning PhDs. As her children progressed through St. Stanislaus Grammar School, she was an active member of the PTA and later on she was a member of the parish’s Golden Agers Club. She also transporte­d Sr. Loretta in her visits to the members of the parish and afterwards during the consolidat­ed Divine Mercy Parish.

Family and Friends are invited to gather at 10:00 am (at Holy Cross Church) for a memorial mass in celebratio­n of the life of Ann which will be conducted at Holy Cross Church (Divine Mercy Parish) on Adeline Street on Saturday October 20th with mass starting at 11:00am with subsequent internment in the family plot In the Holy Cross Cemetery. Funeral arrangemen­ts are coordinate­d by the Winowicz Funeral Home on Adeline St. Donations in Ann’s memory can be made to one’s local Alzheimer Associatio­n.
