Police blotter
Trenton
Rooftop Caper: Miraida Nieves, 27, was arrested after she allegedly stole beauty products, loose change and assorted jewelry, then jumped off a residential roof in an attempt to escape police. Officials say cops were dispatched to South Walter Avenue to thwart a burglary in progress and found Nieves standing on the roof of a home next to a second-floor window. When cops ordered her to climb back through the window and surrender, officials say, she refused and then jumped off the
roof into a neighboring yard, while holding a jar full of loot stolen out of the house. Nieves then led police on a foot chase, climbing several fences and refusing to drop the burglary proceeds. Cops eventually apprehended Nieves a short distance away, but a struggle ensued before police finally put cuffs on her. Police say the jar she clung to contained cash, jewelry and beauty products. No injuries were reported. Nieves is charged with burglary, theft and resisting arrest.
