The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ)

Money donations for local non-profits before a move to Paris, Bermuda or Costa Rica

Listen up. Don’t need $900 million to leave this city that shows no promise of revitalization.

Any community leader or politician who does not have a stated policy on improving city education, who does not make learning a crucial part of his or her daily agenda, has no understanding about what it’s going to take for a resurrection of Trenton.

Not talking stunted starts but real envelopepushing, kick-ass agendas that can improve learning. So, yes, leaving on a jet plane, don’t know if I’ll be back again as the song intimates. Wait, parting gifts exist for some fortunate contestants who attempt to improve the lives of others.

Understand that such a list would include many organizations who deliver support to people in need, especially agencies such as Mercer Street Friends, Trenton Area Soup Kitchen, Christine’s Hope for Kids, Catholic Charities, Latin American Legal Defense & Education Fund, PEI Kids, Isles, Inc., Trenton Literacy Movement, Trenton Rescue Mission, I Am Trenton, Boys & Girls Club, Trenton’s Children Chorus, Arm In Arm, A Better Way, Womanspace, Trenton Health Team, One Simple Wish, Camp Fire, NAMI Mercer, Trenton YMCA, United Way, Anchor House and others.

An endowment to reopen four libraries that have been closed for eight years, plus, shoring up the Trenton Free Public Library would rank high on the list. Also, dollars would be made available for apprenticeships that allow minority men and women the opportunity to learn trade skills and gain union membership as electricians, plumbers and painters.

The financial windfall would lead to the purchase of the Mercer Medical Center complex which combined with federal dollars lead to a world-renowned drug research and rehabilitation center.

If your organization did not receive mention here then email your information to line up on this gravy train of cash. Of course, family members and friends will receive ample financial aid before the world’s newest multi-multi millionaire changes his name and disappears.

Before heading off to Paris, Bermuda, or Costa Rica, statues would be constructed for Gladys Hedgepeth and Berline Williams, women who sued the Trenton, NJ Board of Education over racial discrimination. Their case served as precursor to the Brown v. Board of Education case that challenged racial discrimination in education.

And, money would exist for the yearround maintenance of Cadwalader Park and financial aid for all city art and entertainment initiatives including the Mill Hill Playhouse Passage Theater.

Then it’s off to living a life of leisure including golf junkets with friends to the world’s top courses.

May even sneak back into New Jersey occasionally for a beach visit to Asbury Park, Ocean City or Atlantic Highlands or even a slice of Sicilian pizza from Nino’s.
