Arson: A 40-year-old city man was recently charged with setting fire to the Kiss of Ink Tattoo shop in August. Wendell Johnson, of Mott Street, is charged with second-degree aggravated arson. Last week, a judge ordered Johnson detained pending trial. Prosecutors say the investigation revealed the fire’s origin was near the shop’s front door, and that surveillance footage shows Johnson taking cardboard left for trash and walking toward the parlor’s front entrance. Video also captured Johnson walking to and from the shop with a small red container
that appears to be a gas can. Machete Coke Bust: Israel Negron, 42, was arrested this week after detectives from the Street Crimes Unit allegedly found him in possession of 35 grams of cocaine and a machete. Officials say Negron was sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle with the weapon and drugs in plain view. Police also seized $321 Negron had in his pockets.
Heroin, Guns and Pot: Shania Rosa, 22, Jamir Smith, 20, Maurice Williams, 20, Yesenia Rivera, 31, Titiana Smith, 20, Marquaisa Peterson, 21, and Amir Sanders, 18, were arrested after police found them in
a vacant property with heroin, marijuana and weapons. Police say detectives were sent to a home on Mechanics Avenue after receiving a tip about a group armed with weapons in the house. When cops arrived, they found the front door open and smelled marijuana. Police say Rosa tossed a loaded .38 Colt Special out a window when she saw cops enter the house. The gun fell at the feet of another cop who was waiting
outside for anyone who tried to escape through the rear of the property. Cops also found Jamir Smith in possession of a .38caliber revolver, as well as 200decks of heroin and 13grams of marijuana. A 16-year-old male inside the house was also found in possession of marijuana. Williams, Rivera, Titiana Smith, Peterson and Sanders were only charged with criminal trespass.
