Chris Smith’s Claims

-

Chris Smith’s signs claim he is “a leader we can trust.” Smith’s versions of “leadership” and “trust” leave much to be desired.

Would a leader spend his career denying women the right to control their own bodies and denying civil rights to LGBT citizens?

Should we trust someone who praised fake Planned Parenthood videos on the House floor and in an op-ed, even after they had been debunked?

Should we trust someone who lied about the ACA, (which Smith eventually decided to preserve), by saying it would ruin Medicaid, Medicare, and the economy? Would a leader stand silent while his party almost removed healthcare from 23 million Americans? Would a leader remain silent while they try to remove pre-existing condition coverage?

Should we trust someone who voted to undermine every gun law NJ has by supporting concealed carry reciprocity in 2011? Would a leader constantly bemoan the “mental health” crisis after shootings but introduce no legislation concerning mental health and firearms?

Would a leader stay silent while his party passed a tax law punishing his state?

Should we trust someone who voted against Dodd-Frank because he’d rather let big banks act irresponsibly and create another crisis? Wouldn’t a leader have stood up to his party and supported Dodd-Frank’s Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has returned $12.4 billion directly to American families?

Is this the best Smith can do after 38 years, all while hiding from constituents?

On November 6th, vote for Navy veteran Josh Welle. Welle meets with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. He listens. Welle believes in LGBT and women’s rights. Welle believes in expanding healthcare coverage, common sense gun safety measures, and accepts no corporate PAC money. Welle recognizes that solving problems requires compromise but doesn’t require sacrificing our values and constitutional rights. That’s leadership you can trust.
