Mooch Game scheduled for Sunday at Vets Park
The Glenn “Mooch” Myernick Senior Games will cap the 2018 high school fall season Sunday, Nov. 18 when some of county’s top senior girls and boys soccer players take to Al Cowell Field in Hamilton’s Veterans Park to show their talents to local fans once more before their graduations.
The girls are scheduled to play at 1 p.m., and the boys will begin at 3 p.m.
The event honors the memory of Myernick, who grew up playing soccer in Lawrence and went on to earn national and international fame, before dying suddenly in 2006.
This season’s game will also be played in memory of Trentonian sports writer George O’Gorman, who passed away during the summer.
With the help of sponsorship from the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame, the Central Jersey Youth Soccer Association and EDP Soccer-Jersey Area Girls Soccer, the Bob Smith Soccer Academy, the Ancient Order of the Hibernians Club, New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance, Fornaro Francioso LLC, the Spadaccini Law Firm, plus the Reid family and Conte’s Pizza & the Baldino family, the Mooch Senior Games are free to the public.
The teams will be coached by members of the Mercer Soccer Hall of Fame and are divided into Red and White squads to commemorate Myernick’s Lawrence school colors.
