We haven’t seen the last of Hillary Clinton
Two former top aides to Bill and Hillary Clinton have now stated their belief that Hillary Clinton might run for president a third time in 2020.
In October, Philippe Reines said he thought it was “curious why Hillary Clinton’s name isn’t in the mix,” telling a reporter for Politico that she’s younger than Donald Trump and Joe Biden, that Biden has already run twice, and that 65 million people voted for her.
Reines said the chances that Clinton would run again were “not zero.” He cautioned that it was an “oversimplification” to call her a “failed candidate.” He said she’s smarter and tougher than most and could raise more money as well.
Now another former Clinton aide, pollster Mark Penn, has co-authored a piece for The Wall Street Journal in which he predicts that Hillary Clinton will reinvent herself as “a liberal firebrand” and “come out swinging.”
Penn and Andrew Stein had harsh words for other potential Democratic presidential candidates, especially those in the United States Senate who had acted like “bumbling amateurs” during the confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh.
That would be Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and California’s Sen. Kamala Harris.
Students of Clintonology might have noticed that Hillary Clinton made a surprise appearance Monday night at Glamour magazine’s 2018 Women of the Year Awards, where Harris was one of the honorees. Taking the stage to a standing ovation and what the Hollywood Reporter described as “ear-deafening applause,” Clinton told the crowd that when she gave her concession speech in 2016 and urged little girls to pursue their own dreams and possibly run for office, she “didn’t realize how many women were listening as well.” Clinton went on to say she would continue to encourage “young women” as well as “not-so-young women” to “go ahead, get involved and maybe even run for office.” Then she added, “And may the best candidate win.”
She may not have been sending a message to Harris, but the Texas Board of Education appears to have gotten the message after voting in September to remove Clinton from the history curriculum standards taught to over 5 million students. The school board voted Tuesday to restore Clinton to the curriculum.
