which puts her on pace to reach the exclusive 100-goal club if she remains healthy for the next two seasons.

“I think I’ve matured as a player,” Girman said during the season. “I don’t know. I like scoring goals.”

With one of the quickest first steps in the state, Girman couldn’t be stopped by one player alone. Sometimes two or three weren’t enough. The only way to slow her down was to keep her team from getting the ball because once she got turned, it was over for defenders.

It makes you wonder how much better she can get.

“I know you can say keep getting better, keep getting stronger, but I think it’s to keep leading,” Fink said. “After this season, I told her that she was a leader for us as sophomore and she’s going to have to be a huge leader for us next year. She’s got to step up. She started talking a lot more both on and off the field, which is cool. Next year that will be a big challenge for her.”

With Girman leading the line, outstanding senior Ivonne Vasquez (seven goals, 15 assists) pulling the strings and Midura (10 goals) adding a third attacker to the mix, Nottingham went 13-5 for its best season in 14 years.

That the Northstars did it with more or less 12 players due to injuries throughout the season is a credit to Fink, who is our CVC Coach of the Year.

“It was really tough, especially going against teams that have 10 girls on the sideline and we have 10 that are healthy,” Fink said. “It’s one of those things where it is what is and there’s nothing you can do about it. I told the girls, I’m so proud of them because I can’t even imagine ... I went to Steinert and we had 25 people on our team. You’re just out there everyday, pushing yourself and going with 12 people, knowing you’re playing and that’s what you’re doing.”

“Out team chemistry is great, so that helps a lot,” Girman said. “We use our chemistry to combine passes and it’s just really good.” So was Girman’s season. You might even say unstoppable.

“After you play a game or two with her,” Midura said, “you know she’s gonna power through.”
