1. Twenty-three months before he died of natural causes, this musician was stabbed something like 40 times by a crazed assailant who broke into his home because he had his mind set on repeating history.

2. This French monarch, who at the age of 5 succeeded his stately namesake grandfathe­r for the throne, laughed off what he called a “pinprick” after he was stabbed once by would-be assassin.

3. This French general and statesman had the gall to avoid D-Day actions even though it was in his country. His unapologet­ic approach to governing nearly got him killed years later while he was serving as president.

4. This president was the first president to be targeted by a gun. After both bullets missed he beat down his assailant like he did the English in the Battle of New Orleans or private banks that controlled public money or every American Indian in his way.

5. Two years after a psychotic gunman shot this congressio­nal representa­tive and 18 constituen­ts, killing six, the firearm tightening political action committee Americans for Responsibl­e Solutions was founded.

6. Thirteen years before this deposed North African leader was forced out of his city, then later liberated from a culvert and beaten to death, a sniper got off a few errant shots at him.
