The Trentonian (Trenton, NJ)

Meet our prep school All-Stars

- Staff Report

It was another amazing year for the local prep schools as Lawrenceville won another Mercer County Tournament crown along with a league and state title.

Princeton Day reached both the state and the MCT final and Stuart was vastly improved. Hun, Pennington and Peddie were young teams and are just going to get better.

Here are stars who made all this success possible; The 2018 All-Trentonian Prep team:

Offensive Player of the Year

MEG BARNES, LAWRENCEVILLE >> Barnes has been the consummate team player and one of the most talented in the area for several years. Barnes caged 10 goals and added 12 assists.

Midfielder of the Year

MEG HILLMAN, LAWRENCEVILLE >> When there was a big play to be made, Hillman got the job done. She did a great job of controlling the midfield and scored 17 goals and provided nine assists.

Defensive Player of the Year

VAL RADVANY, PRINCETON DAY >> Radvany was a force on the field, whether it be on the defensive end or on penalty corners. Heading to Michigan State in the fall, Radvany had 10 goals and 15 assists for the Panthers.

Goalie of the Year

LEXI HAUSHEER, PRINCETON DAY >> A very focused goalie, Hausheer has the great ability to stay with the ball and make every save look easy. She will be diving, sliding and jumping to stop any ball and certainly her play brings a strong confidence to the rest of the Panthers.

Coach of the Year

MISSY BRUVIK, STUART >> It wasn’t that long ago the Tartans were struggling to put a team on the field and now they are once again a competitive program. Bruvik already has a great legacy, but this rebuild has been some of her best work.

SASHA SINDHWANI, PRINCETON DAY >> Sindhwani was a prolific scorer for the Panthers, caging 12 goals this season and adding five assists. She understands the game and brings a savvy to the field that is unparalleled. Sindhwani could always be found looking to find the crease in the defense.

CATHERINE MARTIN, STUART >> Martin put 16 balls in the cage this season and provided four assists to aid the resurgent Tartans. Martin was a key to the success at Stuart.

JESS SCOPELLITE, PEDDIE >> She was one of the leaders on the Falcons as they continue to make steps in the right direction. Scopellite found the backboard six times this season and was instrumental in the growth of the younger players.

AUDREY LAZAR, LAWRENCEVILLE >> The leading scorer on the Big Red with 19 goals, Lazar was dangerous when the ball was on her stick. Her ability to find the sliver of daylight to put the ball in the cage was uncanny. It seemed every goal Lazar scored was more important than the last one.

RAGA BHAGAVATHI, PEDDIE >> Another of the senior leaders on the Falcons, Bhagavathi scored eight goals. She brought a calm demeanor to the field that was key to the younger players.

EMMA GARRY, PENNINGTON >> If there was one staple in the Red Raiders’ game plan, it was Garry’s play. A consummate team player, she always left it all on the field and battled for every 50-50 ball.

CAROLINE MULLEN, STUART >> A player who strives for perfection every time she takes the field, Mullen is a diligent, hardworker who caged nine goals and added seven assists for the Tartans. Her presence on the field was a huge plus for Stuart.

LIZZIE HUESMAN, LAWRENCEVILLE >> Huesman was one of the Lawrenceville players who always seemed to rise to the occasion and did their best under the big lights. A steady midfielder, she was a key in the transition game.

KENDALL NEHLIG, HUN >> A tough, gritty and determined defender, Nehlig was one of the key components of the Raiders’ backline. A great teammate, Nehlig not only brought talent to the field, she provided great leadership to the younger players.

MEGHAN DONOHUE, HUN >> Combining with Nehlig, Donohue made a very tough duo for the opposition to get past and find the goal. Donohue was a senior leader and a defender who looked forward to each challenge.

GWEN ALLEN, PRINCETON DAY >> A true program player over the last four years, Allen key for the Panthers in many ways. She has great game skills and was a solid defender, and when either on corners or transition she could put the ball in the cage. Allen accounted for eight goals and five assists.

PRISCILLA FRANCOIS, STUART >> When a team is looking to turn the corner and take the next step it all starts with the defense and that’s what the play of Francois in the back gave Stuart. A true stopper and a player who helped change the outlook at Stuart.

M.C. SHEA, HUN >> Being a goalie requires a certain demeanor and Shea brought that great attitude to the field every day. It was what gave the Raiders confidence in her. Shea was a tireless worker to improve her game and a leader on and off the field.
