-

Who: Princeton (1-2) at Monmouth (0-6)

When: Saturday, 3 p.m., Ocean First Bank Center, West Long Branch

TV/ Radio: ESPN+/ WPRB 103.3 FM

Last Time Out: Princeton lost to Fairleigh Dickinson, 77-66; Monmouth lost to Cal State Fullerton, 87-63 Series History: Princeton leads, 12-5

Background: The Tigers make the short trip to the shore for an in-state clash against the Hawks for a third straight season. The teams split the previous two meetings with Princeton winning last season, 69-58.

Getting Healthy: Princeton’s biggest problem to date has been a lack of guard depth. Actually, not having any guards at all. Senior Devin Cannady, junior Jose Morales and freshman Jaelin Llewellyn all missed the first two games with various injuries, but Cannady and Morales returned in the loss to FDU. Cannady looked like his usual self, pouring in 21 points and knocking down 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. But Morales appeared to re-injure his right shoulder in the second half and wasn’t able to return. Llewellyn, a four-star recruit, is yet to play due to a foot injury, but he’s no longer on crutches or using a boot.

3s Not Falling: The Tigers haven’t found the range from behind the arc yet, chucking up a woeful 24.7 percent in their first three games. Against Division opposition, that number dips to 20.7 percent (11-for-53). Cannady’s return will certainly help that, but Myles Stephens is only shooting it at 21.4 percent (3-for-14) after hitting on a career-best 41.2 percent last season.

Scouting Monmouth: Like Princeton, Monmouth is scuffling early in the season. They’ve yet to be close in a game and have dropped six contests by an average of 17.5 points. Both teams were handled by Lehigh — the Tigers going down 72-57 and the Hawks 85-61. Both Deion Hammond and Ray Salnave are good players in the MAAC and could roar to life against a Princeton defense prone to giving up big runs.
