PRINCETON GAMEDAY

-

Who: Princeton (2-2) at Maine (0-6)

When: Wednesday, 7 p.m., Cross Insurance Arena, Bangor, Maine TV/ Radio: ESPN+/ WPRB 103.3 FM

Last Time Out: Princeton def. Monmouth, 60-57; Maine lost to Quinnipiac, 58-50

Series History: Maine leads, 2-0 Background: The Tigers look to build off their late rally at Monmouth when they tangle with the Black Bears for just the third time ever and first since Jan. 4, 2010 when Maine walked away with a 52-50 victory. This is the home opener for the winless Black Bears. DC for 3: Already one of the most prolific shooters in Princeton history, Devin Cannady added to his lure by pouring in the final eight points of the win at Monmouth. Cannady missed the first two games with a hamstring injury, but hasn’t skipped a beat since returning, scoring 21 points in the last two games. Sixteen of Cannady’s points came in the last seven minutes against Monmouth, during which he went 5-for-5 from the field, 4-for-4 from 3, and 2-for-2 from the line. It doesn’t get any better than that. Way to go Jose: Like Cannady, junior guard Jose Morales missed the first two games with a shoulder injury, but has also returned to give the backcourt a boost. While Princeton still waits for the debut of heralded freshman Jaelin Llewellyn (foot), Morales gives it an extra ball handler and tough defender. He gave the Tigers 10 points, six assists and four steals in 31 minutes last time out.

Did You Know?: Main coach Richard Barron was Princeton’s women’s coach from 2001-07 and is the third-winningest coach in program history (74-91). He led Princeton to the Ivy League title and a playoff for the NCAA Tournament bid in 2006. Meanwhile, his wife, Maureen, was Princeton’s softball coach from 2001-07 and is the second-winningest coach in program history (196-149). She led the Tigers to Ivy titles in 2002, 03, 05 and 06.

Scouting Maine: The Black Bears started the season on a six-game road trip and lost all six contests. Given this is the home opener, Princeton should expect a pretty amped up opponent. Isaiah White averages a team-high 15.2 points, while Andrew Fleming checks in at 10.7. Maine ranks 347th in scoring offense at a measly 56.2 points per game.
