WHAT OTHER HOLIDAY SONGS BOTHER YOU?
‘I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas’ plays as offensive music to non-Caucasians
It’s white supremacist music that needs an immediate removal from all holiday song listening lists.
“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” should be recognized for it’s insensitive message, one that discounts the existence of non-whites and our desire for a wonderful Christmas experience.
“White Christmas” rates as a 1942 Irving Berlin song reminiscing allegedly about an old-fashioned Christmas setting although this music serves as intro to most Ku Klux Klan, Alt-Right and extreme nationalist meetings. Even Adolf Hitler adored this Bing Crosby tune which ranks as the world’s best-selling single with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.
“White Christmas” epitomizes white power that transcends time. I mean, dreaming of a white Christmas “just like the ones I used to know” underscores institutional racism, prejudice and bigotry. If the United States expects to rise above our issues with color then we must recognize insidious words and message that lace our fabric of democracy.
Crosby’s “White Christmas” mantra produces an uncomfortable feeling. Even his whistle delivers a message that he’s happy despite the fact that black and brown people suffer throughout this nation.
Critics press that “You’re being overly sensitive, L.A.” although they have no understanding how it feels to hear white folk saying that they’re dreaming about segregation.
One wonders what their dinner tables look like. Wonder if they have ever allowed a black person inside their home? Wonder if they would be upset if African Americans sang, “I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas.”
Actually, they probably would not care. So, let’s end this institutional racism and these messages that support white dominance.
It’s time to remove “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” from the airwaves. Now, hit me with that James Brown holiday standard, “Santa Claus, Go Straight to the Ghetto”.
(Of course, these opinions represent hyperbole. Not to discount feelings, emotions and other issues, our society has morphed into extreme political correctness).
