TRIVIA- FOLK HEROES

-

1. There really was trouble ahead, trouble behind, when this motorman put his own life down to save dozens of others. Folk balladeers like Pete Seeger have preserved his heroics in songs they’ve conducted.

2. John Chapman was the real name of this Federalera missionary, who was an unfailingly kind agriculturalist who spread the word and the fruit of God throughout the Midwest.

3. Robert MacGregor was the real name of this legendary cattleman, who fought the Battle of Glen Shiel and greedy landowners. We know him best as two parts Scotch, one part vermouth, and a dash of bitters.

4. This Revolutionary spy, the one who famously said “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country,” hailed from Connecticut and is its official state hero.

5. The body of this abolitionist’s radicalism is bronzed yet debatable, but his failed raid on Harpers Ferry is considered the catalyst for the Civil War.

6. This man’s eulogy read “Died in Deadwood, Black Hills, August 2, 1876, from the effects of a pistol shot.” In 1979, for two pair, he was inducted to the Poker Hall of Fame.

7. The Maryland Institute College of Art called his image “the most famous photograph in the world.” If you want to irritate a conservative wear a t-shirt depicting it, but if you want to irritate a liberal tell them that shirt was made by exploited Chinese workers.
