Bordentown’s Hayes is a champion at Mustang Classic
BRICK >> Competing in easily one of the toughest holiday tournaments in the state, Bordentown’s Jajuan Hayes captured the 220-pound championship in the Mustang Classic at Brick Memorial Friday.
A defending region champion, Hayes brought home the gold by posting a 9-5 win over Paulsboro transfer Flynn Leaf in his championship match. Hayes is coming off a 36-6 year and is on course to finish as one of the school’s all-time winningest wrestlers.
The other area wrestler to reach the finals was Allentown’s 113-pounder Joe Lamparelli. He lost in the final by the score of 3-2 to Vin Santaniello of Brick Memorial. Lamparelli had beaten Santaniello, 6-1, in last year’s Region 6 final.
The next highest finish was turned in by Bordentown’s Ryan Brazill, who took a third at 195 pounds.
Paulsboro was the team champion with four individual winners and 201 points. St. Augustine was next with 192 points and High Point was a distant third with 98.5.
Bordentown finished 13th win 49 points and Allentown was 14th with 45.

EAST BRUNSWICK >> Two Mercer County wrestlers reached the finals of a tournament that was captured by Sayreville with Somerville coming in second. West Windsor North finished 10th and West Windsor South was 13th.
At 120 pounds, West Windsor South’s Brandon Murray was decisioned by Kamrin O’Neill of Matawan by the score of 6-4 in the championship match.
West Windsor North’s Timothy Glynn was pinned by Point Pleasant Beach’s in the second period of the 170-pound final. West Windsor North heavyweight Matthew Moore took a third.
