RIDER GAMEDAY

- — Kyle Franko

Who: Rider (5-6) at VCU (8-4) When: Sunday, 2 p.m., Stuart C. Siegel Center, Richmond, Va.

TV/ Radio: ESPN+/ 107.7 FM The Bronc

Last Time Out: Rider lost to Cal State Northridge, 81-80; VCU def. Wichita State, 70-54 Series History: First meeting Background: It’s been a disappointing non-conference performance from the Broncs, but they can build some momentum if they can pull off an upset against the Rams in Richmond.

Vaughn Out: Rider will be without redshirt sophomore forward Dimencio Vaughn for the foreseeable future due to an ankle injury. Vaughn hurt his right ankle during when he landed awkwardly in the win over Northern Colorado — the lone victory on that four-game, 8,000-mile trip — and missed the following game against Cal State Northridge. Vaughn was a first team All-MAAC selection last season and was a preseason first team pick this year. He’s averaging 12.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

Stepping Up: Vaughn wasn’t the only player missing in that one-point loss to CSUN. Junior guard Stevie Jordan was held out on a coach’s decision. Jordan was benched for the final 16 minutes of the victory over Northern Colorado and his status remains to be determined. If he’s not available, that leaves Kimar Williams and Anthony Durham to handle the point guard duties. Those two performed admirably last time out as Rider turned the ball over a season-low six times. Without Vaughn, the onus falls on Frederick Scott to pick up the production. He was outstanding in Vegas, averaging 19 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of games. He also made 11-of-12 free throws in the last game.

Scouting VCU: The Rams snapped a two-game skid with their win over Wichita State last time out. The two previous losses came against Virginia and College of Charleston. Marcus Evans averages a team-high 13.1 points, while Issac Varn (11.9) and De’Riante Jenkins (11.4) also score in double figures.
