Fatal Fire: A man died Thursday during an early morning fire on West State Street. Four firefighters were injured during the blaze, two of whom were treated at the burn unit. It took nearly six hours for firefighters to control the fire, and their search afterward was limited because of a collapsed roof, according to a statement by Mayor Reed Gusciora. After a subsequent search of the third floor later in the afternoon, firefighter’s recovered the man’s body. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Domestic Assault: Darwin Barrera, 28, was arrested after

he allegedly beat his girlfriend for not sticking up for him when his male friends made jokes about him. Officials say the investigation revealed that Barrera was inside his Brunswick Avenue home drinking alcohol with friends when the victim arrived at the house. Shortly after she arrived, police

say, Barrera’s friends made verbal jokes about him in front of her. Police say Barrera started an argument with her a short time later, faulting her for not standing up for him when his friends made jokes. The woman walked outside to escape the argument, police say, but Barrera followed her. Police say Barrera grabbed the woman by her neck and punched her in the face. Barrera is charged with aggravated assault.

Assault: Ronald Romero, 41, was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly cut a man on the back of the neck, forehead and bottom lip. Police say the assault occurred as a result of an argument that started a few months ago. Knife Attack: Ralph Anderson, 40, was arrested after he allegedly cut a woman during an argument inside a North Olden Avenue home. The victim suffered a laceration to her arm that required hospital treatment.

Domestic Assault: Jacobie Green, 36, was recently arrested after he allegedly kicked and strangled his girlfriend during an argument about him having contact with another female. Police say the victim briefly lost consciousness during the assault and suffered a laceration to her chin. When she regained consciousness, police say, she realized Green had taken her car keys, so she ran to a neighbor’s house to call police. While at the scene investigating the assault, police saw a male exit a parked Lexus. That man turned out to be Green and he was in possession of the victim’s keys, according to police.

Heroin, Crack and Weed: Jamil McFarlane, 26, and Karon Oliver, 30, were arrested after police witnessed an alleged drug deal near the intersection of Hampton and Walnut avenues. During the arrests, police seized 30decks of heroin, five grams of marijuana and two grams of crack cocaine. Police also seized $311in cash, as suspected proceeds from drug deals.

Heroin Bust: Haydon Capowski-John, 25, and Mark Colman, 26, were arrested after police found them inside an illegally parked car in possession of heroin. Police say Capowski-John tried to hide the drugs when she saw cops. Police seized 40decks of heroin.

Pot Bust: Armetrius Williams, 32, was arrested after police found 58 grams of marijuana during a traffic stop. Officials say cops initially stopped Williams after seeing him commit a traffic violation while driving a car with illegally tinted windows.
