Steinert beats Robbinsville for its first victory

HAMILTON TWP. >> It hasn’t been the best of starts for the Steinert High wrestle team, but the Spartans did get to enjoy themselves Thursday.

After losing its first five matches of the year, visiting Steinert knocked off Robbinsville, 40-36, when Brandon Redondo came up big in the last bout with a pin in 34 seconds at 182 pounds.

After Steinert bolted to a quick 18-0 lead on two forfeits and a pin by heavyweight Thomas Wasylenko, Robbinsville had stormed back by sweeping 132 through 152 on pins by Drake Torrington and Isaiah Lederman as well as a major by Jack Milazzo.

Steinert’s Christian Sanchez ended the run with a pin at 160, setting the stage for Redondo’s heroics two bouts later.

Steinert is now 1-5 and Robbinsville is 3-1.

In other matches, Hightstown beat Hamilton, 51-18, when Chris Stavrou (195) and Bryan Bonilla (220) got it started with pins in the first two bouts. Joe Obst beat Hamilton’s Isaac Salazar, 9-7, at 113 pounds.

Hunterdon County ac- tion found top-ranked Hunterdon Central beating Delaware Valley, 38-21, and in a late match from Wednesday night North Hunterdon posted a 40-21 victory against Voorhees.
