Blue Danube Restaurant enjoys rave reviews.

4 stars on Yelp

4.5 stars on Trip Advisor 4.9 stars on FaceBook 4 stars on Insider Pages and Trenton Eat Local Club selected the city eatery as the No. 1 Restaurant in 2018.

Casa de Luna Bar and Restaurant y arepera and 911 Smoke House were runners up.

Despite an exodus or closing of famous city restaurants, some remain while other newbies gain reputations of excellence.

Outstanding food fare reviews attract patrons, plus, they allow foodies to make first hand opinions about such high ratings.

Woman friend, Laura, joined me for dinner at Blue Danube in early February.

Parking proved no problem and we walked in from the cold.

Ambiance does not a meal make although Blue Danube delivered instantly with a small bar that reflected neighborhood charm.

We were welcomed then seated immediately as Ariana, our server, established rules of etiquette — time had no serious essence.

Our dinner date would last for two hours as an appetizer of a quartet of four chicken livers, each wrapped in one perfectly cooked slice of bacon served as a foray into European cuisine.

Laura selected a salad primed with numerous items, including diced cantaloupe while personal gastronomical desires eyed the potato-tomato soup. A first and perfect.

Homemade pierogis for her while I selected chicken medallions awash in a subtle lemon sauce.

The slow-paced evening allowed for conversation as our meal and experience matched reviews.

Then Ariana whispered just loud enough to nearby guests, “We have a fresh baked cheesecake out of the oven.”

The moment mirrored a “Whisper Down The Lane” game however in this instant the original words were delivered accurately — “We have a fresh baked

cheesecake out of the oven.”

A large wedge of cheesecake dressed with a delectable strawberry compote arrived with coffee. Magical.

Located at 538 Adeline St., Blue Danube Restaurant offers Eastern European cuisine encompassing the countries along the Danube River —Hungarian, Romanian, German, Polish, Czech.

Fare includes stuffed cabbage, pierogis, chicken paprikas, beef goulash, sauerbraten, wiener schnitzel to name a few. Extensive variety of Eastern European as well as continental fare.

Theme nights on Tuesday - Hungarian/Romanian, Wednesday - Seafood Night, Thursday - German/ Polish.
