Background: First place in the Ivy League is on the line when the Tigers face the Bulldogs in New Haven. Princeton has won seven in a row and is off to a 4-0 start in the Ivy League after sweeping the New York trip at Columbia and Cornell last weekend. The Tigers lost in overtime at Yale on the last day of season and had they won that game they would have made the Ivy Tournament. Ariri .... good: Junior center Richmond Aririguzoh matched a careerbest 20 points in the OT win at Cornell. There might not be another player nationally who has made such an improvement from one year to the next. Aririguzoh is playing at an allleague level. He’s averaging 16 points and eight rebounds in Ivy games and 11.3 points and 5.6 rebounds for the season.

What Sophomore Slump?: Princeton three sophomores — Jerome Desrosiers, Sebastian Much and Ryan Schwieger — have stepped up to play big minutes in Ivy games. Schwieger, in particular, has been great since stepping in for the suspended Devin Cannady. He’s averaging 14.5 points and grabbing 5.5 rebounds after picking up a pair of DNP’s in the Penn games. At 6-6, 205, Schwieger gives Princeton more size on the defensive end and bully ball presence against smaller guards on offense.

Defensively Speaking: Since getting blitzed for at least 79 points over a five-game stretch, the Tigers have held opponents under 65 in their last six games. In the New York sweep, they limited Columbia and Cornell to 6-for-35 (17.1 percent) from beyond the arc.

Scouting Yale: The Bulldogs are tremendous at home, outscoring opponents by 16.2 points and shooting 51.2 percent overall (of note - Yale is also hosting the Ivy League Tournament this year). Junior guard Miye Oni is one of the leading contenders for Ivy Player of the Year, averaging 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds. Jordan Bruner (11.2), Blake Reynolds (11.4) and Alex Copeland (11.5) all average double figures, while Trey Phills is one of the top defensive guards in the league.

Scouting Brown: At 1-3 in the league, the Bears probably need to find a split against Princeton and Penn this weekend to be in the top-four conversation. They host Penn on Friday night. Brown did win in overtime at Jadwin last season thanks to a miraculous shot by Desmond Cambridge. Speaking of Cambridge, the sophomore who prepped for a year at the Hun School, is one of several players in the league who can fill it up on a nightly basis. He’s averaging 16.5 a night and poured in a season-high 31 at Canisius on Jan. 8.
